Maths at hoon hay!

At our school we work with a maths mate and share our thinking with them. We ask questions about our maths and if we aren't sure of something, we explain how we do it. We know that 2 brains are often better than one and we enjoy doing our maths this way.
Today Quinn and I worked on solving this problem:

Emily-Rose hung out 6 loads of washing for her Mum. Each load contained 16 items of clothing. How many items of clothing did she hang out?

This is how we did it:

Museum + Art gallery trip.

On the 13 June we went to the museum and art gallery! we learnt about solar energy at the museum, and made solar power cars! (photos below)

At the art gallery, we made waka huia!

Easter weekend.

In the weekend I went to peel forest Eco lodge and stayed in Huatekerekere cabin. We had burgers for dinner and went  black berry picking.  Afterwards we had a yummy black berry pie!

Koru art

For the last couple of weeks I have been creating my own koru art based on the work of Raewyn Harris. She is a New Zealand artist and you can look at her work on this link.
I have enjoyed creating this masterpiece, and I hope you enjoy it too!

Get NZ Writing

I have been exploring metaphors and descriptive writing through the ‘Get NZ writing’. Here is one of my metaphors that I have created:

Anya is a huge blossoming peachcot tree in my back yard that carpets the ground in pink blossoms.

Poetry

In writing I have used a poem by James K. Baxter as a starting point to write my own poem. I hope you like it
.
My James . K . Baxter poem
The class was usual enough it had posters, people,
paintings, books and even some pillows.
Kyla, Faith and I did what school kids do -
published writing, read books, chatted, copied and ate.

Doing nothing important.
